KC0BXH believes that packet is an excellent mode to transfer information more securely than voice, which is all the local emergency agencies have.

The packet station at KC0BXH consists of a Kantronics KPC-3 TNC, and a Kenwood TM-261A wired to an MFJ tnc-mic switch, allowing the radio to be used for voice service if the need arose.

We are currently using and loving Winpack. It is an extremely flexible program that allows for compressed forwarding and downloading of information using an FBB BBS. Using compression, we are using less band space and using it for a shorter amount of time.

We at KC0BXH are also in the process of assembling several portable packet systems. We are using several older laptops which are also getting radio control software loaded into them giving us even greater resource capabilities in the event of an emergencies.

Another setup we are in the testing stages with is mobile packeting. This gives us even greater capabilities. While this is nothing new or earth shattering, we are a fairly new club and are developing our resources as we are able. Our biggest limitations are limited funding and limited human resources. Everyone does what they can, with some of the members putting in an incredible effort. But when its showtime, we always cover what is needed and come up with better ideas for next time.

KC0BXH - where field day is every day, not just once a year!
